Ivy parked in the spaces near the cottages, a half-dozen white cabins that bordered the Inn's meticulously landscaped formal gardens. Each of the buildings had a private entrance set back from the gardens amid roses and irises and formal shrubs. She made her way up the walk to the front door of Parker's temporary residence and knocked. She waited a moment and when she didn't get a response she turned and walked back toward the gardens, pulling out her phone to text Parker.

Then she heard it, the faint giggle coming from the other side of a small stand of trees. She smiled at the familiar sound and walked in that direction. The path she was on wound through fragrant herbs and flowers and then under a graceful arch made of the branches of two crêpe myrtle trees. Her heart fluttered as she recognized the path as the same one she had taken on her wedding day. She and Cait had dressed in one of the cottages, and then Parker’s father George had walked her down the aisle to the white gazebo.

Parker had looked so handsome, standing at the end of the walk as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. The last golden rays of light made him look like a god, tall and tan and gorgeous in his suit. She’d looked into his eyes and seen her love matched there and she could hardly believe that someone so beautiful, kind, and generous was in love with her. That she was lucky enough to have found this man, the one person on the planet who fit her in every way. The memory of how he had looked at her made her heart fill with joy—and ache with loss.

She had not been back to the Rosewood’s formal gardens since their wedding and she almost dreaded turning that last corner and seeing the familiar view again. It hadn't changed. The gardens and the white gazebo were like a scrapbook, cruelly assembled to taunt her with some of her happiest memories, each one of which now felt like a paper cut.

Parker lounged on the steps facing away from her and toward the sun that hovered over the horizon. His long legs were stretched out in front of him and he rested on his elbows. At the sound of her feet crunching on the gravel path, Parker looked over his shoulder at her and gave her a smile. He looked relaxed and she realized it had been a long time since she'd seen him look that way. Since he had returned to Lost Coast Harbor, and even before then, she had grown accustomed to the stress etched on his face.

He moved so she could sit next to him on the steps. She hesitated briefly, then sat next to him, but kept several inches between them.

"How was your winery tour?" he asked.

She had forgotten that she had even told him what her plans were, but it reminded her that she was mad at him, and that she shouldn't feel sorry for him, no matter how hard that was.
